This is Richard Hayne, President and CEO of Urban Outfitters. He’s also a supporter of Rick Santorum and donated over $13,000 to him. He’s against gay marriage and abortion.

His company pulled a pro-gay shirt back in 08, they also blatantly ripped off an Etsy designers work, featured a t-shirt for women that said “eat less” and most recently had a card with a “tranny” slur on in.

Why do you shop at this store? I imagine because you weren’t aware of these facts. Now you are, so stop shopping there.

A horrific apparent hate crime in California.

In the wake of the senseless killing of Trayvon Martin in Florida, another possible hate crime in California underscored the chasm between American values of equality and non-discrimination and incidents of intolerance.

A 32-year-old Iraqi victim of a brutal beating in her San Diego, California, home died yesterday when, with doctors’ expectations that she would not survive, her family removed her from life support. Shaima Alawadi’s family thinks the beating constitutes a hate crime, and police acknowledge the possibility.

Alawadi, a mother of five children aged 8 to 17, immigrated to the U.S. from Iraq in 1993. On Wednesday, her eldest daughter, Fatima al-Himidi, found Alwadi “drowning in her own blood.” Al-Himidi said her mother was beaten with a tire iron. The daughter told San Diego’s KUSI television news that a note near her mother read, “Go back to your country, you terrorist.” (Another report said the note read, “Go back to your own country. You’re a terrorist.”)

A monstrous crime. Beaten to death with a tire iron — I’m not an expert on profiling, but bludgeoning someone to death with a fucking tire iron seems to suggest hatred and rage.It’s not an execution, it’s a punishment. A sadistic fucking punishment.  This is a sick and brutal crime. And one that lines up with the current rightwing Islamophobic tendencies.

Not to take away from Trayvon Martin, but wait and see if this gets the same wall-to-wall coverage. Some lynchings you can get away with.

Here’s what I predict happens: CNN and MSNBC will cover it the most, while Fox News will cover it, but to participate in victim-smearing, similar to what they are doing with Trayvon Martin’s case.
